Saving and Reverting Figwee Settings
The changes you make on the Figwee settings page are not effective until you save them. Once you have finished making your desired changes, click the Save button in the top right corner of the page. Once the changes have been saved, Figwee will automatically reload.
If you decide for any reason that you do not want to keep the changes you have made, simply click the "Revert" button to restore the last saved settings.
Personal Information
The settings page is where you can view and change various personal information such as your name, email address, and password.
Metabolism Factor
Most users should leave the Metabolism Factor at the default setting of "1" and don't have to read further on this. For those that want the details...
People actually burn calories at different rates depending on genetics, musculature, age, illness, etc, so there is no way to make the calculations for calories used an exact science; the data available forces Figwee (and all other sites out there) to use average values. The metabolic factor is intended to allow you to compensate for individual variances in how many calories you burn from exercises and activities. If you were to use Figwee for a couple of months, and found that your actual weight change was consistently different than what Figwee projected, then you could increase or decrease the metabolic factor accordingly.
The metabolic factor is a multiplier for our calories burned calculations. We calculate calories burned based on the average data, then multiply it by your metabolic factor. Values less than one indicate you have a slower metabolism, values greater than one indicate a faster metabolism. So, if you consistently lost 25% more than what Figwee projected, you might set the metabolic factor to 1.25. If you consistently gained 40% more than what Figwee projected, you might set the metabolic factor to 0.6.
The complication here is that you have to be accurate and consistent with your Figwee usage over a chunk of time to draw any meaningful conclusions about whether your metabolism is higher or lower than normal. And due to natural fluctuations in weight ( e.g. water retention), there is a danger in "chasing" this metabolic factor value. Hence, it is better for most users to stick with the default value of "1.0".
Weight Loss Goals
Figwee can operate in different modes depending on how you want to approach your weight loss goals. The available settings are discussed below.
Desired Weight
What is your target weight? This is entered in pounds or kilograms depending on your Imperial or Metric preference. You can use the BMI chart shown on the settings page to help you determine a healthy target weight, but BMI does not take into account variations in body type, heredity and musculature. Please consult your doctor to set a target weight that is right for you.
Minimum Daily Calories. Unless under the advice and supervision of a doctor or other medical professional, please assume that at an absolute minimum, you should consume at least 1200 calories a day. If you are exercising consistently or lead a very active lifestyle, you may require more than 1200 calories as a minimum. Very low calorie diets can lead to several extremely serious health problems, even death. Please consult your doctor to determine what calorie level is right for you.
Weekly Weight Loss Goal
Figwee allows you to set a weight loss goal of a certain number of pounds or kilograms per week. The great thing about this goal is that Figwee will automatically calculate how many calories you can consume each day based on that day's activity and exercise, while still meeting your weekly weight loss goal. This encourages you to be more active, in that you can eat more the more you do and still lose the weight you want.
Fixed Calorie Goal
Many weight loss programs and doctors will prescribe a fixed number of calories per day. If you use this mode, Figwee will not adjust your calorie goal based on physical activity; your calorie goal will be the constant value you enter here.
Net Carbs Goal
If your goals involve tracking carbohydrates rather than calories, Figwee will display the number of net carbohydrates remaining based on the target number you enter here.
Carbohydrate values are in grams. Net carbs are calculated by taking the Total Carbohydrate value and subtracting the Dietary Fiber value. The total net carbs for the day are subtracted from the carb goal you set, and the difference is displayed in the Nutrition Facts section.
