Overview
The Figwee search facility provides a unique visual way of finding things in the Figwee database of foods, activities, and result trackers. In Figwee, even search is photographic. You type a few letters, and Figwee returns pictures of matching items. Type some more, and the number of photos returned is narrowed.
Open the Figwee Search Dialog
On various Figwee pages such as the Food Diary, Activity Log, and Results Log, you will find buttons at the top of the list views that say "Add" and have a little icon of a magnifying glass. Click any of these buttons to search Figwee. Which button you use to open the search dialog determines where the item you select will be placed. For example, if you open search from the Food Diary list, then any item you select from the search results will be added to the Food Diary. If you open search from the My Foods list, then any selected search result item will be added to My Foods.
No Enter Required. Figwee search works in the background as you type. You don't need to press enter or click a go button. Just start typing and Figwee will return matching items as you do.
Selecting an Item
To choose an item from the search results, just click on the item's photo. When you do the search dialog will close and the item will be added to whatever list view or context you where in when you invoked search. To "cancel" and close the search box without selecting an item, just click the "Cancel" button in the bottom right of the dialog, or click the close "x" button in the top right of the search dialog.
Keep It Simple. When using the Figwee search, think generically. Instead of "chicken noodle soup", you can just type "soup" and select the one that looks like what you ate. You can always type more if you like, but many Figwee users find quick results by typing things simply, such as "steak", "beef", "chicken", "cereal", "coffee", etc. One of the best things about Figwee is that we have a complete, but very focused, database. Consequently, searching for "soup" is not going to bring back thousands and thousands of result items. Our Figweeosophy is that the differences between most of these brands of soup are minor compared with the difficulty having so many introduces in selecting what you ate. Figwee keeps it simple, so you keep it going.
Can't find what you are looking for?
Sometimes you won't be able to find precisely the item you want. In many cases, you can just choose a "best fit" item and be perfectly alright from a weight management perspective. The act of consistently recording what you eat and your activity is more important than striving for 100% accuracy. However, you can usually either edit an existing item to match your requirements, or add a new item altogether. For example, when searching from the Food Diary, if you don't find what you are looking for, you can add an entirely new item using the "star" button at the top of the search dialog. See "Add New Food" or "Creating a New Activity" for more information. Also, if there is an item you feel many Figwee users would want, please let us know. See "Reporting an Issue".
