Overview

The Food Diary, Activity Log, and Results Log all feature a "Diary View" in the center of their respective pages. The diary view behaves similarly across all of these pages. This common behavior is described below.

Diary Date. All of the Diary / Log views operate on the current Figwee Diary Date. This is the date you select using the left / right buttons at the top of Figwee, or through the Calendar window. When you first bring up Figwee, the current date will be selected for you automatically, so if you are making diary entries for "today" you usually don't have to change the diary date. For more information, see Diary Date.

Adding an Item to a Diary View

There are two ways to add an item to a Diary View: Search and from an existing "My" item.

Add Using Search

Search will allow you to look for an item in the Figwee database to enter into the diary view. Call up search by clicking the Add button at the top right of the diary view.

In the search box, type in the first few letters of the name of the item. As you type, Search will show photos of matching items. When you see the item you wish to add to the diary view, just click on the photo. The Search dialog will close and the item will have been added to the diary view.

Add From "My" View

You can also add an item to a diary or log view from your "My" view items. My items include My Foods, My Activities, and My Results. You can add a "My" item to the diary view by clicking on the photo of the item in the My view, by clicking on the "plus" button of the "My" item, or by dragging and dropping the "My" item on the diary view.

Removing an Item From a Diary View

To remove an item from a diary view, simply click the "X" button for the item you wish to remove. A dialog box will come up asking you to confirm the removal. Note that removing an item from a diary view does not delete it entirely from the database of items; it is just removed from that diary date. You can search again for the item and add it back anytime you wish.

What Gets Updated on Add / Remove? When you add or remove an item from a diary view, any "Facts" totals, and any "Charts" are automatically updated on the page. For example, the Nutrition Facts are automatically updated when you add a food item to the Food Diary, as is whatever chart you have selected in the lower right of the Food Diary page.

Editing a Diary Item

Each of the different diary/ log views offer a means of editing diary items. For example, the Food Diary allows you to adjust the portion size, the Activity Log the duration and intensity of the exercise. To edit the diary item, click the "pencil" button next to the item you wish to edit.

Saving a Diary Item to "My" List

Once you have entered a diary item, you can save it to your "My" view for easy future use. You do this by clicking the "heart" button. The My view on each diary / log page is is your list of favorite things you might want to have quick access to in days to come. The best part about this feature is that you not only save the item to your "My" list, but the portion and other edited parameters you selected is remembered and used the next time you add the item to the diary from the "My" list.

Grouping Diary Items By Color

If you right-click on an item in the diary view, a special context menu will appear. A group of choices on this menu allow you to set a tab color for a diary item. The meaning of the colors is up to you...this is simply a way for you to arbitrarily organize your diary items. See below for how to sort the diary list by color.

Sorting the Diary List

You can sort the diary list by right clicking on an item in the diary view and choosing the sort order from the context menu. The available sort options depend on the specific diary view. For example, in the Food Diary View, you can sort by the order in which you entered the items, the food item name, the number of calories in the item, or by your selected color. Other diary / log views will have different sort choices.

Printing a Diary List

You can print a diary view by clicking on the little printer button in the diary view header. When you do, a new browser window will open with only the items from the diary view displayed against a plain background. Your computer's standard print dialog will automatically be invoked.

Drag and Drop. As mentioned above, you can drag and drop a "My" item into a diary view, however, the reverse is not true. Diary views are only drop targets; you can't drag an item out of a diary view. To add an item to "My" view from the diary view, use the "heart" button.
